Libyan Maritime Association (LMA)

 Purpose and Scope

This Code establishes the ethical and professional standards for all members,  and staff, of the Libyan Maritime Association  (LMA). It ensures integrity, transparency, scientific credibility, and commitment to national and international maritime advancement.

Code of Ethics 

  1. Integrity and Honesty 

Act with honesty, fairness, and respect for truth in all academic, scientific, and organizational activities. Avoid conflicts of interest and fully disclose any situation that may compromise objectivity.

  1. Scientific and Professional Excellence 

Promote high standards in maritime education, research, and professional practice. Encourage innovation and continuous learning in shipping, marine safety, and environmental stewardship.

  1. Accountability and Transparency 

Ensure responsible use of funds and accurate documentation of activities and funding sources. Provide timely reports to members, and relevant authorities.

  1. Respect and Equality 

Treat all members, and beneficiaries with dignity and fairness.

  1. Independence and Impartiality

Maintain independence free from political, commercial, or personal influence. Base decisions and statements on objective evidence.

  1. Environmental and Maritime Responsibility

Advocate for marine environment protection and sustainable use of maritime resources Support maritime safety, pollution prevention, and ocean literacy.

  1. Confidentiality 

Protect sensitive information acquired through professional or research activities. Share data only with authorized parties.

Code of Conduct

  1. Compliance with Laws and Regulations 

Operate in full compliance with Libyan legislation .

  1. Conflict of Interest 

Avoid personal or financial interests that conflict with the Association’s objectives. Declare any potential conflicts.

  1. Responsible Use of Resources 

Utilize resources efficiently and solely for approved programs, research, or community service.

  1. Professional Conduct and Representation 

Represent the Association with dignity and professionalism. Refrain from conduct that harms credibility.

  1. Collaboration and Partnership 

Foster cooperation with national institutions, universities, maritime authorities, and international organizations.

  1. Whistleblowing and Reporting Misconduct

Report unethical or illegal actions

  1. Implementation and Enforcement 

All members and staff shall adhere to this Code. Violations may result in disciplinary actions determined by the Executive Board.

By adopting these Codes, LMA affirms its commitment to operate as a non-governmental, non-profit making , scientific body dedicated to advancing maritime knowledge, research integrity, and responsible ocean stewardship for Libya and the global community.
